Why do you go to church? That was a question
I put to St. Mary's church not long after I arrived. It’s a
simple question, but one that is worth exploring a little.
I started attending church in Radcliffe after the Baptism of my son back in
1985. I knew deep down that my visit to church would not be a 'one off'
but that I would become a regular attendee. I had had a Christian
belief when I was at school, but not a Christian faith. When I began
attending church services, it challenged my belief and gradually I developed
a faith.
'Faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of
Christ' (Rom 10:17) and 'without faith it is impossible to please God'.
Faith is a process, once we have heard the message of Salvation and 'confess
with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved' (Rom 10:9).
We need to understand the message and make it part of our lives, God then
develops our faith and we need to become obedient to His call on our
lives.
Going to church for some is nothing more than something they 'do', it’s
a social club, a place to meet their friends and have a good gossip.
But for others it is a place to come and worship our wonderful God and give
praise to him through the good times and the challenging ones.
Why do you come to church?
Be blessed,
Audrey
